Job Description - Controls Technician - Greenwood, SC


Description


Colgate-Palmolive invites applications for the Controls Technician position located at our new Greenwood, SC plant. This is an exciting opportunity to experience a new plant start-up for a world-class manufacturing company.


The primary accountabilities of the role include attaining high equipment reliability and uptime, safety compliance, equipment maintenance procedures, data collection, housekeeping, problem solving and continuous improvement as part of a work team. The Controls Technician works within a structure that requires considerable interaction with others in the same production unit as well as other production units and support functions.


Responsibilities of this position are as follows:



  • Leads troubleshooting of production problems on a timely basis until successful resolution including major and minor maintenance of automated and non-automated equipment (making, finishing) through computer terminals, control panels and/or by manual means in the manufacturing of Colgate-Palmolive products (including electrical wiring, process and program analysis).

  • Recommends, decides and implements actions under daily operation pressure to drive production lines performance.

  • Provides technical support on capital projects.

  • Is the first point of contact in case of electrical and control systems malfunction on production lines.

  • Develops and delivers training for operations team and co-workers

  • Delivers against maintenance KPIs.

  • Works with Control Systems Engineer to establish, review, improve and execute plant control system standards including PM tasks

  • Undertakes daily reporting and updates of information systems (SAP, OPERA, Cycle Counts) including documentation of maintenance activities performed on equipment

  • Participates in new equipment installation, validation and start up processes

  • Supports Failure Investigations in respective areas.

  • Highlights potential maintenance issues and takes corrective action including parts requisitioning and maintenance planning

  • Replaces electrical equipment when needed

  • Recommends, decides and implements actions under daily operation pressure to drive production lines performance.

  • Accurately and fully completes all regulatory and compliance related documentation and procedures; highlights variances

  • Stays abreast of teams' production performance via visual, written and verbal communications

  • Participates in regular review of team production performance and uses information to drive continuous improvement. Provides status of maintenance activity for line/area; recommends machine modifications

  • Participates in structured group or team activities related to line/area performance improvement e.g. autonomous maintenance, housekeeping, problem solving etc.

  • Seeks and understands production scheduling and demands. Prioritizes maintenance activities that support and facilitates these schedules and demands.

  • Seeks and applies Continuous Improvement tools and techniques to achieve team goals e.g. Quality Systems, Total Productive Maintenance, Problem Solving tools

  • Follows all Environmental, Occupational, Health and Safety requirements

  • Follows all Quality, Good Manufacturing Practices and Micro Cleaning & Sanitization Guidelines and standards

  • Understand the needs of both internal and external customers. Internal customers include Quality, Planning, Maintenance, and Finance. External customers are other Colgate plants, customer service and, for example, Target, WalMart etc.

  • Maintains work area to required housekeeping standards. Performs housekeeping activities as per established protocol and conducts/participates in area housekeeping assessments per requirement

  • Other job functions that may be assigned.


Qualifications


Required:



  • Technical Certification or equivalent work experience

  • Capability to troubleshoot, edit and modify programs for:

    • Allen Bradley controllers (Control Logix) and servo drives (SERCOS, KINETIX)

    • Wonderware systems (InTouch, InBatch, Archestra)


  • Knowledge of industrial automation networks (ControlNet, DeviceNet, Ethernet, Profibus)

  • Capability to analyze and replace automation hardware devices(VFD, SMS, PLC, IO cards, instruments)

  • Practical skills in working with technical documentation (electrical schematic drawings, P&IDs, equipment manuals)

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and rotating shifts

  • Ability to work 12 hour shifts

  • Capability to analyze process flow to identify issues.

  • Teamwork and cross functional cooperation style of work.

  • Practical knowledge of MS Office programs

  • Action/Decision making capability

  • Requires climbing, bending, kneeling and the ability to lift 50 pounds and the availability to remain on-call for nights and weekend coverage.


Preferred:



  • 5+years maintenance work experience in a manufacturing, production or operation environment or equivalent and related military experience

  • Experience working with food safety regulated environments (AIB, FDA, USDA, cGMP)



  • Working knowledge of SAP

  • Technical certifications or degree
